How to Install IPTV on Android TV and Google TV

A Sony or TCL Google TV, a Chromecast with Google TV, and an Nvidia Shield install IPTV the same way: a player from Google Play, then the server address, username and password your provider sends you. This is that living-room install. It is not a phone guide, and Fire OS has no Google Play, so Fire TV is only a short note near the end.

Have the device on the home network, a Google account on it, and the provider message beside you. A forum playlist is not your account.

Which Google TV and Android TV devices this covers

Google TV is the newer home screen. Older sets still say Android TV. Both have the Play Store. The steps below apply when that store is on the device.

Sony and TCL sets

Many Sony and TCL models ship with Google TV built in, so you do not add a stick. Press Home, open Apps, and look for Play Store. Older Sony Android TV models use a simpler row and the same store. Samsung and LG do not run this software. Use the Smart TV install page for those brands.

Chromecast with Google TV and Nvidia Shield

Chromecast with Google TV (HD and 4K) plugs into HDMI and shows the same Apps row. Nvidia Shield TV and Shield TV Pro do the same. Many have Ethernet.

What to have ready before you open the Play Store

• The set or dongle is on Wi-Fi, preferably 5 GHz. On a Shield, use Ethernet when you can.
• Google Play opens and you are signed in.
• The provider message is beside you: server address, username, password, and a port if one was sent.
• Start on one screen. One, two and three-screen plans are on the pricing page.

Choose one player from Google Play

Install one player and watch a channel before you add another. Search these names on Google Play and check the listing title before you install.

A paid unlock inside an app is the developer's charge, not a WorldIPTV price. Skip it until a channel is playing. If a listing is missing, try the next name. Do not install an app file from a browser.

Step-by-step install on Android TV and Google TV

These steps take about 15 minutes on a set that is already on your Wi-Fi. They use Google Play only.

1. Confirm the home screen is Google TV or Android TV. Press Home. On Sony, TCL and Chromecast with Google TV, look for Apps and a Play Store icon. On Nvidia Shield, open the apps list. If you see Amazon Fire TV, or a Samsung or LG store, stop. Fire TV is covered later. Samsung and LG use the Smart TV install page.
2. Sign in to Google Play. Open Play Store and sign in if it asks. A Shield or Chromecast set up earlier may already be signed in. The players in the table install only from this store.
3. Install one player from the Play Store. Search for TiviMate IPTV Player or IPTV Smarters Pro, check the listing name, and select Install. If it is missing, search XCIPTV Player or OTT Navigator IPTV. Do not download an app file.
4. Open the player and choose Xtream Codes. Launch the app and accept the terms. Choose Add playlist or Add user, then Xtream Codes. In Smarters the label is Login with Xtream Codes API. Leave a playlist-URL field alone unless your provider message says a private URL is the only login you were given.
5. Type the provider server, username and password. Name the playlist, for example Living room. Type the server address exactly as sent, including http or https and the port. Enter the username and password from that same message. Do not search the web for a server address.
6. Wait until the channel list finishes loading. Stay on the loading screen. Groups then show on the left or as folders. If the screen is empty, open the playlist name you just saved.
7. Play one live channel you know. Choose a news channel you recognise and let it run for a few minutes. If it only spins, compare the server, username and password with the provider message before you change anything else.
8. Turn on the guide and save a few favourites. Open the guide. Programme names should fill in after it downloads. Mark a few channels as favourites so they sit in a short list.

First setup checks after login

A finished install is a channel that plays, not a password that was merely accepted.

Picture, sound and the guide

Let one channel play for several minutes. A start-stop picture often means weak 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or a dongle hidden behind the TV. Use a short HDMI extender for a recessed Chromecast port, or Ethernet on the Shield.

Start on HD. Open a 4K channel only after HD is steady, and only on a 4K set, a 4K Chromecast with Google TV, or a Shield. The Android install guide uses about 10 Mbps for HD and about 25 Mbps for 4K, at the device. If guide times are hours off, set the TV clock and time zone, then refresh the guide. Confirm the audio track matches the programme.

One screen at a time

Quit the app on any phone that used the same login, then play on this TV. If the player says the connection limit is reached, another device is still using a screen. Counts are on pricing.

Fire TV OS uses a different store

Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Cube run Fire OS. The store is the Amazon Appstore, not Google Play, so these Play Store steps do not run there.
