Android is the most flexible platform for IPTV because it runs on everything from a $100 phone to a Nvidia Shield, and because most IPTV players are developed for Android first. The choice is wide: some apps are built for a touchscreen, some for a remote, and a few handle both well. This guide ranks the players we have tested with WorldIPTV in 2026 and tells you which to install on which type of device.
Phone, tablet or Android TV: the distinction matters
"Android" covers three very different screens, and the best player is not the same for each.
- Android phones and tablets run standard Android with touch input. You want a player with a mobile layout, Chromecast support and picture-in-picture so you can keep watching while checking messages.
- Android TV and Google TV (Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips TVs, Chromecast with Google TV, Nvidia Shield, Xiaomi Mi Box) run a leanback interface designed for a D-pad remote. Apps must be built for it; a phone app sideloaded onto Android TV usually has unreachable buttons.
- Generic Android TV boxes (the cheap boxes running phone Android on a TV) sit in between. They accept any APK but often have weak hardware; see our Android TV box vs Firestick comparison before buying one.
WorldIPTV works on all three via Xtream Codes API or M3U, with full EPG, 7-day catch-up and our 80,000+ VOD library.

TiviMate โ best for Android TV
TiviMate is the reference IPTV player on Android TV. The EPG grid is fast and readable at ten feet, favorites and groups are easy to build with a remote, and channel switching is nearly instant on a Shield or Chromecast with Google TV. Premium adds recording to local or network storage, multi-view, and multiple playlists. It has no phone version, and its VOD section is more basic than Smarters', so heavy movie watchers sometimes run both.
IPTV Smarters Pro โ best all-rounder
Smarters is the app our support team recommends when someone wants one app on their phone, tablet and TV. Log in once with your Xtream credentials and it presents live TV, movies, series and catch-up in separate tabs, with parental controls and a choice of ExoPlayer or the native player. On phones it supports Chromecast and picture-in-picture. The TV layout is not as refined as TiviMate but everything is reachable with a remote.
XCIPTV โ best for weak hardware
XCIPTV is lean and uses ExoPlayer with configurable buffering, which makes it the best performer on entry-level Android boxes with 1โ2 GB of RAM. It understands the Xtream API fully (categories, VOD, series, catch-up) and the settings let you pick decoder, aspect ratio and buffer per stream. The interface is plainer than the others.
GSE Smart IPTV โ best on phones for casting and subtitles
GSE is still the most complete phone player: it handles Xtream, M3U, local playlists and EPG from an XMLTV URL, casts to Chromecast, and has the best subtitle and audio-track selection of the group. The Android TV version exists but is not its strong point.
OTT Navigator โ best for power users on TV
OTT Navigator competes with TiviMate on Android TV and wins on customization: every panel and behavior can be changed, and it supports multi-view and catch-up navigation in the EPG. The trade-off is a steeper learning curve.
Kodi โ best if you already use it
Kodi is a media center rather than an IPTV player, but the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on plays an M3U playlist with an XMLTV guide alongside your local library. Right if you already run Kodi; not the easiest starting point.
How to set up an IPTV player on Android
The process is the same on phones and Android TV. Full screenshots are on our Android install guide.
- Install the player from Google Play (Smarters, XCIPTV, GSE, TiviMate and OTT Navigator are all listed) or, for a box without Play, sideload the APK from the developer's official link.
- Open the app and choose Login with Xtream Codes API (or "Add playlist" > Xtream in TiviMate).
- Enter the server URL, username and password from your WorldIPTV activation email. For M3U-only apps, paste the M3U URL from your playlists page and the EPG URL if asked.
- Wait while the app loads channels and the guide. On the first run this takes 30โ90 seconds for 20,000+ channels.
- In settings, choose ExoPlayer (or "hardware decoder") and set the buffer to 2โ4 seconds.
- Build a favorites group with the channels you watch most so you are not scrolling through 60+ countries every evening.
Our recommendation by device
- Android TV or Google TV: TiviMate Premium, with Smarters installed alongside for VOD.
- Phone or tablet: IPTV Smarters Pro, or GSE if you cast a lot.
- Cheap Android box: XCIPTV.
- Existing Kodi setup: PVR IPTV Simple Client with our M3U and EPG URLs.
