It is 7 October 2026. Several films dated by their distributors are already in cinemas, three more Fridays still have openings, and the studio pages read for this article do not name a digital or streaming day for those new releases. A home copy is a later step, and the length of the wait is not the same number at every studio.
This page stays with that wait. It uses distributor pages for the cinema dates, and two March 2026 trade reports for how windows are described in public. It does not fill a blank with a guess. Dated horror already offered at home, and autumn festival runs, sit on other pages.
What the wait from a cinema to a home copy is
A theatrical window is the stretch when a film is meant to be seen in cinemas before a legal home copy exists. “Home” is more than one button.
On many studio films the first home step is premium video on demand: a digital rent or buy, often while some cinemas are still showing the film. A later step can be a standard digital price. After that, a subscription service may get the film in a first pay window. A cinema date does not tell you which of those buttons will appear, or when.
The Wrap, on 13 March 2026, reports that Universal replaced its pandemic-era minimum of 17 days with a 31-day minimum for every film on the 2026 slate, starting with Reminders of Him. The same article says the 2027 slate moves to 45 days. Deadline, on 12 March 2026, confirms that 2027 figure as 45 days and says Focus Features stays around 17 days. The Wrap says Focus is exempt from the longer Universal change and remains on the shorter structure, because premium on-demand is part of the model for some of its films.
A minimum is the earliest a studio has described. It is not a date printed on an October title. A film that is still drawing audiences can stay in cinemas longer. A page that still says “only in theaters” has not announced the home step.
Other studios are not on that Universal sentence. The Wrap reports that Paramount CEO David Ellison has pledged a minimum 45-day theatrical window for that studio’s releases. It also reports that Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos pledged a 45-day theatrical window, then premium on-demand, for Warner films, and that he made the pledge under oath at a Senate hearing while Netflix was bidding for Warner Bros. Deadline, a day earlier, describes Disney as using about 60 days before premium on-demand, and a longer wait before streaming, sometimes 90 days and beyond. The Wrap describes Disney as having put a 100-day theatrical window in place from Avatar: The Way of Water. This article does not choose between those two Disney lines. Neither line is a home date for a film opening this month.
Sony has not published one number for its whole slate. The Wrap says chairman Tom Rothman has argued for longer exclusivity, and that Sony films often reach Netflix under a later pay deal. The Social Reckoning’s own Sony page, read for this article, says the film is exclusively in theatres on 9 October and does not name a digital date.
Which October openings a studio has dated
The table uses a distributor page or a dated studio news post. An empty home cell means that page did not state a digital or streaming day.
| Film | Cinema date on the studio page | Who dates it | Home date on that page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Digger | 2 October 2026 | Warner Bros. Pictures | None stated |
| Verity | 2 October 2026 | Amazon MGM Studios | None stated |
| The Social Reckoning | 9 October 2026 | Sony Pictures | None stated |
| Sense and Sensibility | 16 October 2026 | Focus Features | None stated |
| Street Fighter | 16 October 2026 | Paramount Pictures | None stated |
| Clayface | 23 October 2026 in North America; international from 21 October | Warner Bros. Pictures | None stated |
Digger is the Alejandro G. Iñárritu film with Tom Cruise. Warner Bros. lists a theatrical release on 2 October 2026 and labels it a comedy, “only in theaters.” A Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures, and Film and TV Charity announcement describes a North American release in theaters and IMAX on that date, with international dates beginning 30 September 2026. In that announcement, Digger Rockwell is the most powerful man in the world, trying to prove he is humanity’s savior before a disaster he unleashed destroys everything. The announcement does not add a rental date. Deadline’s review repeats the 2 October 2026 Warner Bros. date and the same director and lead.
Verity is Amazon MGM Studios’ film of the Colleen Hoover novel. Deadline’s 11 July 2025 release note dates it 2 October 2026, with Michael Showalter directing and Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett in the lead roles. On that note, struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh is hired to ghostwrite for author Verity Crawford and finds autobiographical notes she cannot treat as fiction. Amazon’s landing page titles the film “only in theaters October 2.” No Prime Video date appears on the pages read here.
The Social Reckoning is Sony’s Aaron Sorkin film, written and directed by him, exclusively in theatres on 9 October. Sony’s synopsis: Frances Haugen, played by Mikey Madison, a Facebook engineer, works with Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, played by Jeremy Allen White. Sony calls it a companion to The Social Network. The cast line also names Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, Bill Burr, and Jeremy Strong. The page stops at theatres.
Sense and Sensibility needs two Focus dates, because Focus printed two. A 17 November 2025 news post set US theaters for 11 September 2026 and UK theaters for 25 September 2026. The film page now reads 16 October 2026, romance and drama, and a 16 September 2026 premiere note says “only in theaters October 16.” Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles star. Georgia Oakley directs. Diana Reid wrote the screenplay, from Jane Austen’s novel. This article uses 16 October, the date on the later pages. Focus has not put a digital date beside it. The shorter Focus window in the trade reports is a reason to open that film page again after release. It is not a day to write on a calendar tonight.
Street Fighter is on Paramount’s film page for 16 October 2026, in theatres. The studio synopsis sets the story in 1993: Chun-Li, played by Callina Liang, pulls Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) into a World Warrior Tournament. Kitao Sakurai directs. Jason Momoa is listed as Blanka. The page does not say digital. A 45-day pledge reported in the trade press is not a substitute for a missing line on that page.
Clayface is the late-October row. The official film site says Warner Bros. Pictures will release it only in theaters in North America on 23 October 2026, and internationally beginning 21 October 2026. James Watkins directs. Tom Rhys Harries plays Matt Hagen. Warner Bros.’ own movie page also says “only in theaters” on 23 October. Horror titles that already have a home date this month are a different list, on the October horror-at-home guide. Festival runs are not wide openings either: London Film Festival 2026 and the autumn festival calendar.
The home date a studio has actually published
One film people may want on a sofa this week has a date on a studio page. It is not one of the October openings above.
Sony Pictures’ page for Spider-Man: Brand New Day says the film is available 10/6 through major digital retailers, including Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango, and Sony Pictures Core. About Amazon, updated 6 October 2026, says the same film is available to buy or rent on Prime Video for an additional cost. A rent or buy is a different button from a title included with a membership. The Sony page read here does not describe that 6 October step as a subscription premiere.
That is the pattern for the October openings: wait until the distributor names the retailers and the day. Until then, the plan is a cinema ticket, or a different film whose home date is already printed.
How to plan the next three Fridays
Write the night as cinema or sofa before anyone looks up a title.
This week, Digger and Verity are the pair the studios dated for 2 October. A local cinema site is the check that a seat exists near you. A sofa plan with a published digital date is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, on the retailers Sony named, as a rent or buy. A film that is already inside a subscription app belongs on that app’s own list. This page does not move Digger or Verity onto that app.
Friday 9 October is The Social Reckoning in cinemas. Sony’s line is exclusively in theatres. The sources above do not give that title a home backup.
Friday 16 October splits the room. Street Fighter is the Paramount booking. Sense and Sensibility is the Focus drama. Pick one cinema plan. If someone would rather wait for a rental of the Austen film, check the Focus page again in the days after it opens. Leave the 17-day policy as a policy, not as a guessed calendar day.
Friday 23 October is Clayface in North American theaters. The official site starts the international release on 21 October. A household outside North America should read the local date.
A country can lag a US page. Digger’s announcement already splits North America and the international start. Clayface does the same. If the cinema site in your city does not list the film, the US date has not arrived for you.
When the night is at home, open the service the studio named, sign in on the television you will actually use, and read the title card. A missing card means that login does not have the film. Setup for a set you already own is on the Fire TV install guide and the Samsung and LG guide. An evening that mixes a live channel with a film later is a different habit, on evening TV without cable.
Where a WorldIPTV plan fits, and where it does not
Digger, Verity, The Social Reckoning, Sense and Sensibility, Street Fighter, Clayface, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day stay with the distributors that dated them. This article does not place any of them in a WorldIPTV library. A WorldIPTV plan is a separate login, for live channels and for whatever the on-demand library on that login actually contains. Term length is on pricing. Screen count is on compare. A short picture check on your own television starts from the free trial. Subscribers follow the law where they watch.
