IPTV on Samsung and LG Smart TVs: Tizen and webOS Guide

Samsung and LG sell the majority of smart TVs in Europe and North America, and neither runs Android. Samsung uses Tizen and LG uses webOS, which means you cannot sideload an APK and the choice of IPTV apps is limited to what is in each brand's app store. The upside is that the apps that are there work well, and you do not need a Firestick or box at all. Which IPTV apps are on Samsung Tizen and LG webOS?

Store availability changes — both Samsung and LG occasionally remove and restore IPTV players — so check the store on your TV. These are the players our subscribers use most on each platform.

How MAC-based activation works

Most Tizen and webOS IPTV players do not ask you to type a server URL and password on the TV. Instead they use the TV's MAC address as an identifier, and you attach your playlist from a computer or phone. The flow is the same across SIPTV, IBO, Flix, Net IPTV and similar apps:

1. Install the app on the TV and open it. The first screen shows a MAC address (something like 00:1A:79:xx:xx:xx) and often a device key.
2. On a phone or computer, go to the app developer's activation portal (the address is shown on the TV screen).
3. Enter the MAC address, then paste your WorldIPTV M3U URL from your playlists page. Some portals also accept Xtream credentials (server, username, password) and build the playlist for you.
4. Add the EPG URL if the portal has a separate field, then save.
5. Restart the app on the TV. It fetches the playlist attached to its MAC address and loads channels.

Because the playlist is tied to the MAC, you never type credentials on the TV and can update the playlist from the portal at any time. The disadvantage is that if the developer's portal is down, new activations wait. Note that the MAC depends on the active network interface: switch from Wi-Fi to Ethernet and you will need to re-add the playlist.

Step-by-step: IPTV on a Samsung Tizen TV

1. Press Home on the remote, go to Apps, and use the search icon to look for IBO Player or Smart IPTV.
2. Install and open the app. Note the MAC address on screen.
3. On your phone, open the activation portal shown on screen, enter the MAC, and paste your WorldIPTV M3U URL (or Xtream details).
4. Save, wait a minute, and restart the app on the TV.
5. Channels and the guide load. Use the Groups or Categories menu to filter by country, then press the star or "Fav" button on the channels you watch most.
6. In the TV's Picture settings, turn off "Auto Motion Plus" (motion smoothing), which makes sport look unnatural.

Samsung's store is region-locked. If an app does not appear, try the IBO or SIPTV alternative before changing the TV's region in Settings > General > System Manager, which can affect other apps.

Step-by-step: IPTV on an LG webOS TV

1. Press Home, open the LG Content Store, and search for IBO Player, Smart IPTV or IPTV Smarters.
2. Install and open. For MAC-based apps, note the MAC address; for Smarters, choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
3. Activate via the portal (MAC apps) or enter the server URL, username and password from your activation email (Smarters).
4. Restart the app. On first load with 20,000+ channels, allow 30–60 seconds.
5. In the app's settings, enable EPG and set the time offset if program times look shifted; webOS sometimes reports UTC.
6. Use the Magic Remote's pointer to add favorites, or hold the OK button on a channel for the context menu.

Native app or streaming stick: which is better on a Samsung or LG TV?
