October 2026 Horror at Home: New Films and Classics

October 2026 has a real home-horror shelf, and the dates below are the ones printed on studio, streamer, or distributor pages read for this update on 5 October 2026. A title card in your country can still move. This is a month-long watchlist for a living room, with a short classic shelf when you want a film you already know, and a plain check for a Smart TV or Fire TV Stick.

Which new horror titles have a home date this October?

These are premieres or first home windows named by the source in the last column. “Included with a subscription” and “digital rent or buy” are different buttons. The source line is what we are willing to print.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s 25 September 2026 release says New Line and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Evil Dead Burn makes its global streaming debut exclusively on HBO Max on Friday 2 October. The same release places the film on HBO linear on Saturday 3 October at 8:00 p.m. ET, after Evil Dead (2013) at 4:45 p.m. ET and Evil Dead Rise at 6:20 p.m. ET. The story on that page: after a death in the family, a woman stays with her in-laws, and the house fills with Deadites. Sébastien Vaniček directs. That linear trio is the one double-and-single bill with times attached. Whether HBO Max is offered on your set is a question for the app, not for this paragraph.

Sony Pictures’ page for Insidious: Out of the Further reads “Watch on Digital 10/6” and shows Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango, and Sony Pictures Core. Amelia Eve plays Gemma, a mother who can enter the Further and bring something back. A rental price was not on the page we read. Open the storefront button and read rent or buy there.

Shudder’s 19 August 2026 “Season of Screams” release, from AMC Networks, is the Friday spine of the month:

• Curse of the Ghoul Logs, an hour-long pumpkin special, begins 1 October.
• Infirmary (2 October) is bodycam footage from a guard’s first night in an old psychiatric hospital. Paul Syre, Mark Anthony Williams, and Danielle Kennedy are the names on the release.
• V/H/S/Mixtape (9 October) is the ninth anthology, built around music and sound, with segments from Ernest Dickerson, RZA, David Moreau, and Renee Zhan.
• Hallowarrior (16 October) follows Pumpkin, played by Milly Shapiro, on Halloween eve after a plague.
• The Cycle (23 October) starts from a corpse and an estranged daughter, Deborah Ann Woll, with Jeffrey Donovan also named.
• Big Baby (30 October) is a writer whose baby-mask killer leaves the page. Spider One directs; Cher is an executive producer on that release.
• Hunting Matthew Nichols (31 October) is a Vancouver Island missing-person documentary that turns.

The same release says those programming highlights are also on AMC+. Shudder’s own about text on that page names the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Joe Bob’s Halloween House Party premieres live on Friday 23 October, with on-demand from Sunday 25 October. Friday watch parties on that release are listed at 9 p.m. ET.

Hokum needs two lines, because Disney+ printed two. The 30 September 2026 new-releases article dates it 10 October on Hulu: Adam Scott as a novelist at a remote Irish inn, scattering his parents’ ashes, with a witch in the honeymoon suite. The Huluween article, revised 5 October 2026, says “Hokum arrives October 8.” Use the date on the title card the afternoon you press play.

Apocalypse Z 2 is a film on About Amazon’s United States October list: 31 October, a second installment set around the Canary Islands after a virus outbreak. That roundup is explicit that the list is for Prime Video in the United States.

Which series are easy to confuse with films?

A few October horror headlines are series. They belong on a long night, and they are the wrong row if you wanted a single feature.

About Amazon’s Carrie note, updated 9 September 2026, says all eight episodes of Mike Flanagan’s series premiere on Prime Video on 7 October in over 240 countries and territories. Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White. That figure and that country count are the article’s own. The October Prime Video roundup repeats the 7 October premiere on its United States list.

Netflix Tudum’s October list, Ashley Lee, 30 September 2026, puts Below on 8 October: a fisherman and a sea creature in a coastal town. The same list puts Haunted Hotel on 9 October.

Disney+’s 30 September new-releases article dates the American Horror Story: 13 finale as 29 October, with final episodes at 9 p.m. PT, on Hulu. The same article dates Coven Academy as 2 October, all episodes, on Disney+ and Hulu: teenage witches at a New Orleans boarding school.

Which known horror films join Netflix or Hulu on a printed day?

This is the fallback shelf: films the October pages date, even when the film itself is older. Years are included only when the source prints them.

Netflix, 1 October 2026, from the Tudum list above, under that day’s heading:

• Psycho, Psycho II, and Psycho III (Norman Bates, Anthony Perkins, in the Tudum lines).
• Evil Dead: five friends, a cabin, a book of spells. Tudum does not add a year on that row. Keep it separate from Evil Dead Burn.
• Friday the 13th: Camp Crystal Lake and a new group of counselors, in Tudum’s wording.
• The Sixth Sense: a boy who sees dead people.
• Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein: Tudum names Kenneth Branagh as Victor.
• Hush: a writer who lost her hearing, and a masked intruder.
• The Strangers: a couple and three masked attackers.
• Crimson Peak, The Menu, Ouija, and Ouija: Origin of Evil.

Later on the same Tudum list: The Boogeyman on 5 October (a grieving family and a creature that feeds on grief), Pride and Prejudice and Zombies on 6 October, and Cocaine Bear on 14 October.

Hulu, from the 30 September Disney+ article: Barbarian on 1 October (a double-booked Detroit rental and a stranger already inside). Hereditary and Midsommar on 3 October. Wolf Man on 18 October (a family barricaded in a farmhouse). Companion on 18 October is the page’s “genre-blending tale of love, deceit, and revenge” at a lake house, filed here because it shares that day’s horror-adjacent slot. Soulm8te on 1 October is the grieving engineer and the android, which the Huluween article calls relationship horror.

The same 1 October Hulu movie list is the lighter Halloween shelf: Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, Edward Scissorhands, and Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2.

The Huluween article revised 5 October 2026 also names Coraline, Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and ParaNorman as watchlist picks. Those four entries do not print a fresh arrival day. Search the title, then read the card. Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is on that Huluween list, with Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton named, and that entry does not print an arrival day either. The Substance appears in the Halloween introduction of the 30 September new-releases article. The dated movie entries we transcribed do not give it a day of its own.

Wikipedia’s “2026 in film” page lists the 59th Sitges Film Festival for 8–18 October 2026 in Sitges, Spain. That is a festival window. A home date for a film screening there was not on the lines we used, so this page does not invent one.

How do you check a VOD catalogue before you promise a film?

The pages above are a reading list. Your app is the copy that matters at 7 p.m.

1. Open the service’s new-this-month article or the New row inside the app. A date from 19 August or 30 September can be revised, which is what happened with Hokum.
2. Read the button. Play, rent, and buy are different. Insidious: Out of the Further is the digital row. Evil Dead Burn is the streaming row in the Warner Bros. Discovery release.
3. Match the country and the plan. Hulu titles sit behind a Hulu plan or a bundle that includes Hulu. The 5 October Huluween article’s footnote limits certain Hulu content to U.S. residents. Prime’s October roundup is a United States list, while the Carrie note claims a much wider premiere. Shudder’s about text names six countries. A missing title often means the catalogue, not a broken HDMI cable.
4. Search the full title. Evil Dead on Netflix and Evil Dead Burn on HBO Max are different films landing a day apart.

How do you run the night on a Smart TV or Fire TV Stick?

Set the room up before anyone argues about the first film.

• Install or update the streaming app from the Smart TV’s own store, or from the Fire TV store if the stick is what you watch on. Use the app that store lists for that service.
• If the stick is in the set, select that HDMI input on the television. The Fire TV Stick install guide is the stick path. A Samsung or LG set that stays on the built-in system is the Smart TV install guide.
• Play one minute of picture and sound in the afternoon, with the lights you will actually use. Turn subtitles on from the player menu while the room is still calm.
• Keep the volume remote in the room. Horror mixes whispers and stings, and a hunt for the remote is louder than the film.
• Pick one feature, or the HBO linear trio on 3 October if that channel is in the house. A stack of five apps, each asking for a password, is how a Halloween night becomes a settings menu.
