If you mainly want live sport on a flexible, month-to-month plan, Kayo Sports is the simpler choice. Kayo says that since 5 February 2026 it costs A$29.99 a month for Standard (one device, HD) or A$45.99 a month for Premium (two devices, 4K), with no lock-in. Foxtel costs more. Foxtel Now lists Sport + Movies at A$84 a month (A$58 for 12 months) and Ultimate at A$104 a month on foxtel.com.au. Confirm other package prices there. Before you pay for either, remember that a good slice of AFL, NRL and cricket is also on free-to-air TV and its apps.
Prices and promotions in this category move often, so treat every dollar figure below as a snapshot to confirm on the provider's own site. All prices are in Australian dollars (AUD). Kayo prices follow its 5 February 2026 announcement. Foxtel Now prices below are from foxtel.com.au.

Kayo Sports: the details
Kayo's help centre states that, from 5 February 2026:
- Standard: A$29.99 a month, one device at a time, HD.
- Premium: A$45.99 a month, two devices at once, 4K, with a recommended 25 Mbps connection.
- No lock-in. You can stop when a season ends and come back later.
We didn't find a Kayo price change announced after that date, but check the Kayo site before you sign up.
Devices Kayo supports
According to Kayo's device list, you can stream on:
- Samsung TVs from 2017 onward
- Chromecast, Chromecast with Google TV and the Google TV Streamer
- LG smart TVs (Kayo's pages list different webOS minimums, so check its current list)
- Amazon Fire TV Stick (specific models are listed on Kayo's Fire TV page)
- Roku TVs officially released in Australia
- iPhone and iPad (iOS 15+), Android phones (Android 8.0+) and web browsers
- PlayStation 4 and 5, and selected Xbox consoles
A Fire TV detail worth knowing: you can't sign up inside the Fire TV app. Kayo says you need to subscribe through a web browser first, then sign in on the TV by scanning a QR code. Kayo also says 4K isn't currently available on Fire TV, and some features, including search, SplitView and fixtures, aren't available there either. If you're choosing a stick, our Android TV box vs Firestick comparison and Fire TV Stick install guide cover the hardware side.
Foxtel: the details
Foxtel Now's page on foxtel.com.au lists Sport + Movies and Ultimate as follows. Other package prices are to be confirmed on foxtel.com.au.
| Plan | Price on foxtel.com.au |
|---|---|
| Foxtel Now Sport + Movies | A$84 a month, or A$58 a month for 12 months |
| Foxtel Now Ultimate | A$104 a month |
Promo prices need a 12-month commitment, and if you cancel early, contract terms apply, so read the fine print. Foxtel also told customers it would raise the price of its Plus and Platinum Plus packages by A$5 a month from 1 September 2026, according to press reports, so a comparison table may be behind the current price for some plans. Plan names, prices and hardware or installation costs change often. Check foxtel.com.au for the current offer.
What can you watch? AFL, NRL and cricket
AFL
The AFL's 2025–2031 rights sit with Seven and Foxtel. According to the AFL's own broadcast information:
- Fox Footy (on Foxtel and Kayo) shows all nine matches every round, live.
- Seven and 7plus show an average of at least three live matches a round.
- Finals weeks 1–3 are on both Seven / 7plus and Foxtel / Kayo.
- The Grand Final is live on Seven and 7plus. In 2026 Kayo carried a full replay with Fox Footy commentary rather than the live match. The 6.00pm AEST time comes from a pre-match note, so check the broadcast guide.
The 2026 Grand Final was played on Saturday 26 September at the MCG, where Brisbane beat Fremantle by seven points.
NRL
The 2026 NRL Grand Final on Sunday 4 October is, according to Nine, exclusive, live and free on Channel 9 and 9Now. Fox Sports says Fox League will offer build-up analysis and a full replay with its own commentary after the final siren. Our NRL Grand Final 2026 guide has the kick-off time in every state and how to watch.
Cricket
Cricket Australia's deal, per cricket.com.au, runs to 2031. Men's Tests and all women's internationals are on both Foxtel / Kayo and Seven / 7plus, all men's white-ball matches are exclusive to Foxtel / Kayo, and BBL|16 has every match on Kayo and Foxtel with 30 regular-season games and all four finals free on Seven / 7plus. Dates and local start times are in our Summer of Cricket 2026-27 guide.
Which one is right for you?
| If you… | Consider |
|---|---|
| Follow one or two sports and want to cancel in the off-season | Kayo (no lock-in) |
| Have a big household that wants sport, movies and entertainment | Foxtel, and compare bundles carefully |
| Mostly watch the big free-to-air matches | Seven / 7plus and Nine / 9Now with a free account |
| Mainly watch on a phone or laptop | Kayo or the free-to-air apps |
| Want the most AFL possible | Fox Footy (Kayo or Foxtel) plus Seven |
Questions to ask before you subscribe
- How many screens? Kayo Standard is one device at a time.
- Do I need 4K? Premium is the tier that lists 4K, and you'll want about 25 Mbps.
- What's my contract? Foxtel's promo prices are 12-month deals.
- What's already free? Seven and Nine cover marquee events such as the AFL and NRL Grand Finals.
Free-to-air is still part of the picture
Freeview is a free service that brings ABC, SBS, Seven, Nine and 10 channels together with live and on-demand content. It needs a Freeview-certified TV, an aerial and a broadband connection for the on-demand side.
Where IPTV fits, and where it doesn't
Some households look at IPTV as a way to put live channels from several countries in a single app. It is a different kind of product from Kayo or Foxtel, and it doesn't change who holds the rights to a match. You can also try it on your own devices with a free trial or read more on the Australia page. Whatever you choose, make sure it's licensed for the content you want to watch.
Setup tips
- Update your telly's software before the season starts.
- Create your accounts on a computer or phone (you can't subscribe to Kayo from inside the Fire TV app).
- Use a wired connection where you can, especially for 4K on Kayo Premium.
- If streams stutter, our buffering fix guide covers the settings that matter.
A note on licensed viewing
Broadcasters pay a lot for sport rights, and that funds the coverage. Use official services and check that anything you sign up to is properly licensed for the content you want. Australian courts can order internet providers to block overseas piracy sites (section 115A of the Copyright Act 1968), and unofficial streams can be unreliable and a security risk.
