If your team's NHL game is "not available" in Canada, the most common reason is regional rights: the game belongs to a broadcaster for the part of the country you are in, and it is restricted from other places. A national or out-of-market package doesn't always override that. The fix is usually to find which broadcaster holds your team's regional games for your location, then check that exact service before puck drop. Rights and schedules change, so confirm on the broadcaster's own pages on the day.

Information as of October 3, 2026, based on the broadcasters' own announcements and support pages. Last updated: October 9, 2026.

Why would an NHL game be blocked when I pay for a service?

Most NHL games in Canada are tied to a region. According to Sportsnet+ support, Sportsnet is the regional broadcaster for the Canucks, Flames, Oilers and Maple Leafs, and it does not hold regional rights for the Canadiens, Jets, Senators or Sabres. Those teams' regional games sit with other broadcasters, such as TSN for several clubs and RDS for the Canadiens. Which service can legally show you a game also depends on where you physically are, and the apps check your location.

So two people who pay for the same service can see different things. A Leafs fan in Toronto and a Leafs fan in Calgary may have different options, because "home region" is part of the rights.

What do the Premium and out-of-market packages cover?

Sportsnet+ support explains that its Premium tier and the Centre Ice out-of-market package are for games outside your region. They don't unlock a regional game that another broadcaster is already showing in your market. In plain terms: a higher tier is not a master key. Check what your tier lists as included, and what it lists as restricted, before you assume a game will play.

What is the weekly pattern this season?

Rogers announced in September 2026 that Saturday Night Hockey on Sportsnet starts October 3, Monday Night Hockey is exclusive to Sportsnet+ from October 5, and Wednesday games are on Prime Video only. National windows like these don't follow the regional rule in the same way, but you still need the right app and the right location settings. Check the broadcaster's schedule for the date you care about.

How do I find the right service for tonight's game?

  1. Name the exact game. Team, date and time, with your time zone in mind.
  2. Use the NHL Game Finder. Sportsnet+ support publishes a Game Finder that lists where each game airs for your location.
  3. Open that broadcaster's app or site and read the restrictions line for the game.
  4. Check your location services. Apps decide by where your device is, so a wrong setting can block a game you are entitled to see.
  5. Start early. Log in 20 to 30 minutes before the game so a sign-in problem doesn't cost you the first period.

For a city-level example, see the Toronto check for Leafs and Raptors games.

What should I watch out for with unofficial offers?

Some sellers promise "every NHL game, no blackouts." Be cautious. Blackout and regional rules exist because of licensing, and a promise to ignore them is a reason to ask who holds the rights. Whatever you use, make sure it is a service licensed for Canada and read whether IPTV is legal, country by country. Our IPTV in Canada overview explains how we approach this.

FAQ

Why does my Premium subscription not show my local team's game?
Premium and out-of-market packages are meant for games outside your region. If another broadcaster holds the regional rights where you are, that game stays with them. Check the Game Finder for the right service.
Is Prime Video or Sportsnet+ better for Wednesday and Monday games?
Based on the Rogers announcement, Wednesday games are on Prime Video and Monday games are on Sportsnet+ exclusively. Confirm the schedule on the day, since windows can change.
Can I fix a blocked game by changing my location?
No. Using tools to hide your real location may breach the terms of the service and can lead to account problems. Use the service that holds the rights for where you are.
Are there free NHL games on TV in Canada this season?
We haven't confirmed any regular free national window this season. Check each broadcaster's schedule, and be wary of any site claiming free access to everything.
Where do I check tonight's game?
Start with the NHL Game Finder on Sportsnet+ support, then confirm in the broadcaster's own app or on its schedule page.
