A blank or shifted TV guide is usually a setup problem, not a broken channel. The picture can be fine while the row says nothing, shows yesterday, or lists a programme that started hours ago. This IPTV EPG setup is for Fire TV Stick and for Samsung and LG smart TVs: what the guide is, why the IPTV TV guide is not showing, and how to fix EPG on Firestick in TiviMate, IPTV Smarters and the TV apps this site already covers.
What an IPTV EPG is
EPG means electronic program guide. It is the grid of titles, start and end times, and short descriptions beside the channel list. The video does not carry that grid. The guide is a separate download, almost always XMLTV: channels, then programmes, each with a start, a stop and a channel id. Times are a timestamp plus an offset, such as +0000 for UTC. If the offset is missing, the usual reading is UTC.
The player downloads that file and attaches each programme to a channel. With Xtream Codes it uses the same server address, username and password as the channels, so there is no second link. WorldIPTV delivers the guide that way. With M3U the playlist is only the channel list. The guide is a separate XMLTV address from the same account, on your playlists page. Some files also name it in the header (url-tvg).
Catch-up uses those times. On main channels with a 7-day archive, an hour of shift opens the wrong part of the recording. The M3U and Xtream comparison covers which login suits which device.
Why the guide is empty or out of sync
Four causes explain a blank or shifted guide, and they stack.
The clock or time zone is wrong. Times follow the Firestick or the TV. A stick set up abroad, or a TV on a manual clock, shifts every row together. Daylight saving does the same for one hour on a fixed offset. The server file can still be right.
The guide was not downloaded, or the copy is stale. The grid stays empty until the first fetch finishes, and listings only cover a limited run of days. If the app never refreshes, later days become "No information". A fetch that stops when the TV sleeps can leave a frozen half-written guide.
The channel id and the guide id do not match. XMLTV uses a channel id. An M3U line uses tvg-id. Programmes show only when those strings match. Renaming the channel changes the label, not the id. Xtream logins usually arrive paired. Mixing an M3U from one login with an EPG address from another is the usual mismatch.
The app is showing a cached copy. After the EPG address, the zone or the playlist changes, the stored file can remain on screen. Clearing the cache forces a new download. Clearing data on Fire OS also removes the saved login.
Step-by-step fix for a blank or shifted guide
Work through these in order, and stop when the grid matches a channel you know. Allow about 15 minutes, most of it waiting on the download.
- Set the device clock. On Fire TV, Amazon's forum staff point to Settings, then Preferences, then Time Zone, and tell you to pick your region. On Samsung or LG, set automatic time in the TV's own system settings, not in the IPTV app. The Firestick and smart TV install guides start from that clock.
- Confirm a guide source is attached. Xtream Codes uses the login as the source. With M3U, paste the XMLTV address from the same account as the playlist. Do not pair one login's playlist with another login's guide.
- Refresh the guide and wait. In TiviMate open Settings, then EPG, and run Update EPG. In IPTV Smarters open Settings, then EPG Settings, enable EPG, and run Install EPG or Refresh EPG. If a TV app took the guide from its portal, restart it after you save, and leave it until the download finishes.
- Remove a leftover time shift. When every programme is off by the same number of hours and the clock is already right, set time shift or EPG offset to zero and refresh. Change it only if that fresh download is still shifted on every channel.
- Clear the player cache. On Fire TV open Settings, Applications, Manage Installed Applications, select the player and clear cache, then refresh. Clear data only if nothing changed, and expect to sign in again. On a smart TV, force-stop the app or power-cycle the set, then refresh.
- Match channel IDs if only some rows are empty. Use the M3U and XMLTV link from the same playlists page entry. An Xtream login skips this step.
TiviMate, Smarters and smart TV apps
TiviMate has the fullest Firestick grid, which is why an EPG Firestick search often ends there. Xtream downloads the guide with the playlist. For M3U, add the XMLTV address under Settings, then EPG, and run Update EPG. The Android install guide notes a refresh interval on that screen. Fix the Fire TV zone before any in-app offset. See the best Firestick IPTV apps when choosing a player. Stutter is separate: the buffering guide does not repair the guide.
IPTV Smarters Pro uses the same controls on Firestick and, where the store lists it, on Samsung and LG: gear icon, EPG Settings (some builds say EPG), Install EPG once, then Refresh EPG. Time shift moves every row by whole hours and applies on the next download. M3U needs the XMLTV address. Xtream does not. Remove a pasted guide address from an Xtream login, then refresh.
Tizen and webOS do not use TiviMate's menus. The Samsung and LG guide covers the apps people install. In IBO Player, paste the XMLTV address in the portal EPG field, or add it under Settings, then EPG, run Update and restart. Smart IPTV and Net IPTV read the guide from the playlist. WorldIPTV's M3U carries url-tvg, so the grid follows a second launch. On Smart IPTV the yellow button opens it. If it is empty, upload the playlist again and wait for the next scheduled fetch. The TV's aerial or cable guide will not list IPTV programmes.
If the row stays blank after the channel plays
Video and the guide download separately. A channel that plays with an empty row has a working stream and a failed match. Check that the fetch finished, that the EPG source belongs to this playlist, and that the feed publishes a schedule. Hidden groups and favourites only change where a channel sits.
Plans that include the guide are on the pricing page, from $12 for one month. If you are still choosing a service, read the comparison page before you pay anyone.
If the grid is still empty or shifted after the clock, a refresh, a zeroed time shift and a cache clear, tell support the app, whether the login is Xtream or M3U, and whether every channel is affected or only some. Keep the playlist address and the password in the private chat.
